|A 88.22-carat, flawless oval diamond was the top lot at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Sale. The D color, type Ila, oval brilliant gem made $13.7m against an estimate of $11.2 million to $12.7 million. The auction house called the stone “perfect” based on “every critical criterion” that diamonds are measured.|
It has received the highest ranking for color, clarity, cut, polish and symmetry. The finished diamond was cut from a 242-carat rough stone, discovered at the Jwaneng mine in Botswana.
