Sotheby’s Sets Old Master Auction Records in London


Jean-Etienne Liotard’s “A Dutch Girl at Breakfast” sold for a record £4,405,000 ($5,694,784)
Sotheby’s set new auction records for multiple artists during its sales of Old Master paintings, sculptures, works of art, and drawings in London from July 5-7. New records for Jean-Etienne Liotard, Marten van Cleve the Elder, Dominic Serres, Pacino di Bonaguida, Louis-Gabriel Blanchet, Barthel Beham, Niccolò di ser Sozzo, and Jan Brueghel the Elder were achieved.

Jan Brueghel the Elder’s “Still Life of flowers in a stoneware vase,” sold for £3,845,000 ($4,970,816)
Bonhams has set a new world auction record for English portrait painter William Dobson (1611-1656) during its July 6 Old Master Paintings sale in London. The auction house sold the earliest known self-portrait by the artist for £1,106,550 (around $1.4 million)

Canaletto, "A View of the Churches of the Redentore and San Giacomo, with a Moored Man-of-War, Gondolas, and Barges," sold for $5.7 million in 2012
