The Sapphire Jubilee Brooch

When outgoing Governor General David Johnston made his final trip to London to visit the Queen, he had a special gift for the monarch from the Canadian government. On July 19 he presented the Queen with the Sapphire Jubilee Brooch.
The Sapphire Jubilee Brooch includes 48 sapphires of varying sizes, shapes, and colors, weighing 10.19 carats in total, sourced from Baffin Island. The stones are surrounded by more than 400 diamonds from Canada, weighing 4.39 carats in total, and the brooch is set in 18K Canadian white gold.

Its snowflake design is an ode to the chilly landscape of the Arctic. Work started in 2016 and took about eight months to complete.
