Colored Diamonds Shined in 2016


The 5.03 carat Fancy Vivid Green 'Aurora Green' made $ 16.8m or $3.3m per carat.
Next week’s jewelry auctions in New York will wrap up a year of record prices for colored diamonds.

Naturally fancy colored diamonds are the most valuable gemstones on the planet on a price per carat basis.
The largest Fancy Vivid Blue diamond ever offered at auction sold for a record $57.5 million on May 18, 2016. The 14.62-carat ‘Oppenheimer Blue’.
The 15.38-carat Fancy Vivid Pink ‘Unique Pink’ became the most expensive Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever to sell at auction in May 2016. It made $31.6m.
Exceptionally fine colored diamonds have no fixed price and rules do not apply. Their value is determined when they are sold at auction.

Investments in rare colored diamonds have done extremely well. Colored diamonds in 2016 continued to reach new heights in value as price records fell.

The 10.10-carat De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 sold for $32 million in April of 2016.

17.07 carat fancy intense pink diamond VVS1 made $20.8m in November 2016.

4.26-carat fancy blue diamond sold for $11.8m

The 24.18-carat “Cullinan Dream,” brought $ 25m at Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels sale on June 9.
