World's Most Expensive Tropical Fish

Clarion Angelfish are named after a small island off the coast of Mexico and cost around $2,500. Owning one requires a special permit from the government of Mexico.

Wrought Iron Butterflyfish hail from Japan and cost something around $2,700.
Australian Flathead Perch are rare and expensive. $ 5,000.

Neptune Grouper is a dweller of the deep. Neptune Groupers are extremely difficult to find, catch and bring to the surface alive. $ 6,000
Golden Basslet. This fish is found (rarely) in even deeper water. It costs around $8,000.

Bladefin Basslet can reach prices of $10,000.
Masked Angelfish. Found in the Hawaiian Islands, this fish is known to cost around $20,000

Peppermint Angelfish are found in the eastern-central Pacific around the Cook Islands and Rarotonga. It is a very rare and shy species. $ 30,000.

Freshwater Polka Dot Stingray. This type of stingray has a rare genetic mutation that makes its head shaped like a U instead of a round shape. Because of this the fish has to be fed by hand to survive. $ 100,000
Platinum Arowana. The fish is an Osteoglossum species from South America. Unlike most Osteoglossum, this mutant is white with virtually no other colors present. It was recently offered for sale to prospective buyers for more than £200,000
